Tom Ford became Creative Director of Yves Saint Laurent in 1999 when the house was acquired by the Gucci Group, overseeing 16 collections a year across both houses. The St. Tropez — produced across his final year at the helm in 2004 — was among his most sensorial designs for the house: a cascade of layered suede ruffles with no rigid structure, built entirely from the textile itself. Saint Laurent was the first couturier to launch a ready-to-wear label and the first to open boutiques for both men and women — and in Tom Ford's hands, that free-spirited Rive Gauche DNA found its most tactile, bohemian expression. The pink suede St. Tropez is one of the rarest colourways of an already rare bag — Ford departed YSL in 2004, making every piece from this final chapter a finite archive find. 🌸
